【摘要】:Watercancausedegradationofcoatings,soknowledgeofhowacoatingresistswaterishelpfulinpredictingitsservicelife.Failureinacondensationtestmaybecausedbyanumberoffactorsincludingadeficiencyinthecoatingitself,contaminationofthesubstrate,orinadequatesurfacepreparation.Thetestisthereforeusefulforevaluatingcoatingsaloneorcompletecoatingsystems.Condensationtestsofcoatingsareusedforspecificationacceptance,qualitycontrol,andresearchanddevelopmentofcoatingsandsubstratetreatments.Thesetestsusuallyresultinapassorfaildeterminationbutthedegreeoffailurealsomaybemeasured.Acoatingsystemisconsideredtopassifthereisnoevidenceofwater-relatedfailureafteraspecifiedperiodoftime.Resultsobtainedfromtheuseofcondensationtestsinaccordancewiththispracticeshouldnotberepresentedasbeingequivalenttoaperiodofexposuretowaterinthenaturalenvironment,untilthedegreeofquantitativecorrelationhasbeenestablishedforthecoatingorcoatingsystem.Thetestisusuallyconductedonmetal,plastics,orwoodspecimenswiththecoatingfacingtheinsideofthechamber.However,itispossibletotesttheblisterresistanceofhousepaintsonwoodspecimensbymountingtheuncoatedwoodsurfacefacingtheinsideofthechamber.Thispracticecanbeusedforcorrosiontestsparticularlyifthespecimensareperiodicallydried.Whilecorrosionproductswilldrainintothewaterbath,theyarenotcarriedintothevaporthatcondensesonthetestspecimens.1.1Thispracticecoversbasicprinciplesandoperatingproceduresfortestingwaterresistanceofcoatingsusingcontrolledcondensation.Condensationisproducedbyexposingonesurfaceofacoatedspecimentoaheated,saturatedmixtureofairandwatervapor,whilethereversesideofthespecimenisexposedtothecoolingeffectofroomtemperatureair.ThispracticeisderivedfromresearchoftheClevelandSocietyforCoatingsTechnology.1.2Thispracticeislimitedtothemethodsofobtaining,measuring,andcontrollingconditionsandproceduresofcontrolledcondensationtests.Itdoesnotspecifyspecimenpreparation,specifictestconditions,orevaluationofresults.Note1-AlternativepracticesfortestingwaterresistanceofcoatingsincludePracticesD870,D1735,andD2247.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
